This video is a longer clip of the Panama Canal Railway's MF daily morning passenger train, as it rolls toward the Atlantic/Caribbean port city of Colon from Panama City. The train will depart Colon for the return trip to Panama City in the afternoon. The scenery is diverse, and the historic 160-plus year old rail line right-of-way of the Panama Railroad passes through large tracts of dense, natural jungle, and along much of the length of the Panama Canal. The PCRC has a usage concession to operate over the historic 1849-chartered Panama Railroad's right-of-way. The original 1850s Panama transcontinental rail line cost a whopping $1 million per mile in 1850 dollars! The private, New York-chartered Panama Railroad Company is 54 years older than the nation of Panama, which gained its independence from Colombia in early November of 1903. The amazing Panama Canal could never have been constructed without the Panama Railroad. Today, the fully restored classic streamliner passenger train still polishes the rails as trains, both passenger and freight, have since the 1850s. This train trip is a "must do" for train buffs new and old, and visitors to Panama.
